 Continuing Medical Education 

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Tulane University Health Sciences Center and the Pediatric Academic Societies. Tulane University Health Sciences Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians and takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity.

Tulane University Health Sciences Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 32.75 hours in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Tulane University Health Sciences Center presents this activity for educational purposes only. Participants are expected to utilize their own expertise and judgment while engaged in the practice of medicine. The content of the presentations is provided solely by presenters who have been selected because of their recognized expertise.

Program Objectives

At the conclusion of this educational activity the participant should be better able to:

• Comprehend knowledge and skills in various areas of basic and clinical pediatric research.

• Apply knowledge gained in all areas of pediatric investigation and practice.

• Understand new tools for teaching and practicing of medicine related to pediatrics.

Procedure for CME Credit

A $50 processing fee is required for those who request credit. To receive the appropriate number of CME credit hours, it is important to do the following:

• Upon arrival, pick up your verification form at the Continuing Education Desk.

• On your departure date, turn in your completed verification form.

A record of credit will be mailed to each registrant after the activity concludes.

Disclosure Policy

It is the policy of the Center for Continuing Education at Tulane University Health Sciences Center to ensure balance, independence, objectivity and scientific rigor in all its educational programs. All faculty participating in these programs are expected to disclose to the program audiences any real or apparent conflict of interest related to the content of their presentations. This pertains to relationships with pharmaceutical companies, biomedical device manufacturers or other corporations whose products or services are related to the subject matter of the presentation topic, including off-label, experimental or investigational use of drugs or devices.

Nursing Credits

Nursing credits are being provided through the Ambulatory Pediatric Association. Please complete the appropriate form at the Continuing Education Desk at Meeting Registration. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 4754, for 31.25 contact hours. Hours should be claimed based on those hours actually spent in an educational activity.

AAP Credit

This continuing medical education activity has been reviewed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and is acceptable for up to 38.25 AAP credit hours. These credits can be applied toward the PREP Education Award available to Fellows and Candidate Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Members of our Societies and our Societies as a whole, must avoid actual or apparent conflict of interest regarding social, educational or research activities.

As guidelines, governing conflict of interest in consulting, company ownership and research funding emerge at the institutional level, our Societies seek to promulgate similar policies as they pertain to our association and its members.

1. Work submitted for presentation at the annual meeting must include an acknowledgment of commercial or industrial funding, consulting, or equity holdings in companies which could be affected by the results of the study. Such a statement should appear at the conclusion of the abstract and should read "funded by..." and/or "equity in...," where pertinent.

2. Societies are encouraged to solicit and accept funds for educational purposes. These donations will be acknowledged on a yearly basis in the description of the relevant activity in the program issue, at the site of the relevant activity, or as contributions to general educational funds. No funds will be accepted for social activities of the Societies.  Awards or symposia with commercial sponsors must adhere to the educational mission of the societies, must  exclude commercial involvement in the selection of awardees and program content, and must be approved by the Councils of the Societies.  Related clubs, societies, symposia, etc. must adhere to similar policies.
