The Richard D. Rowe Award in Perinatal Cardiology
was established in 1988 by colleagues, trainees and friends of
Dr. Rowe to honor his many personal achievements, commitment to
academic excellence, integrity and humility. The award
carries a monetary prize of $1,000.
Eligibility
Criteria
Have
M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree and be within 3 years of
completion of post-doctoral education. Individuals in the
process of obtaining such an education but having already
completed original work are encouraged to apply.
Candidates
must fulfill the following conditions:

completed SPR Richard D. Rowe Award Application Form
either in PDF Format or as a
Word document.

First
authorship on an abstract submitted to the Pediatric
Academic Societies' (PAS) Annual Meeting in the field
of perinatal cardiovascular development.
The abstract must be accepted for presentation
at the PAS Annual Meeting to be considered.

checked for the Richard D. Rowe Award.

A
sponsoring letter from and SPR member. This letter
should contain a short appraisal of the candidate's
accomplishments and potential and clearly outline
his/her participation in the work contained in the
abstract.

emergency medicine in which a PEM fellow is a lead author.
The
application involves the following:
A
committee from the Ambulatory Pediatric Association selects the
winning candidate, and the work is presented during the Emergency
Medicine Special Interest Group meeting. The award is presented
during the APA Business Meeting.

The
ASPHO Young Investigator Award was established to formally
recognize excellence in research in pediatric hematology and
oncology. The qualifications for award candidates are as follows:
-
Less
than 4 years have elapsed since the completion of the standard
3-year pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship.
-
The
candidate has conducted high-quality clinical or laboratory
research on a project for which he or she participated
actively in the design, conduct, and data analysis.
-
The
candidate is committed to a career that includes clinical
and/or laboratory investigation in pediatric
hematology/oncology.
Winners
are chosen by evaluation of abstracts submitted for presentation
at the ASPHO Annual Meeting, together with review of each
candidate's other research contributions. The award consists of
$1,000 and a certificate.
The
application involves the following:

an abstract online with the young investigator designated as
the first author by December 7, 2004.

Four
Young Investigator Travel Stipends of $500 each will be awarded by
the ASPHO Program Committee. Travel Stipends will be awarded to
fellows whose abstract submissions received the four highest
scores in the blinded abstract review process.
Candidates
for the Young Investigator Travel Stipend are solicited during the
Call for Abstracts. The qualifications for award candidates are as follows:

Fellow
in a pediatric hematology/oncology program

of ASPHO

Young

Abstract
accepted for presentation at the joint ASPHO/PAS Annual
Meeting

Expectation
that the Young Investigator nominee, if successful, will
present from the podium his or her paper at the next joint
ASPHO/PAS Annual Meeting
The
ASPHO Program Committee will identify the recipients of the travel
stipends based on eligibility criteria and abstract ranking. Each
travel stipend will be in the amount of $500. Award checks will be
picked up at the Annual Meeting. Up to 4 travel stipends will be
awarded annually.
