SPR Richard D. Rowe Award in Perinatal Cardiology back to top
(Presented by the Society for Pediatric Research)

The Richard D. Rowe Award in Perinatal Cardiology was established in 1988 by colleagues, trainees and friends of Dr. Rowe to honor his many personal achievements, commitment to academic excellence, integrity and humility. The award carries a monetary prize of $1,000. The winning applicant is selected on the basis of both the quality of the work presented in the abstract and the information contained in the sponsoring letter.

  • Check the appropriate box in the PAS abstract submission program and complete the online application form.
  • Abstract and supplemental materials must be received by the PAS abstract submission deadline.
  • Have M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree and be within 3 years of completion of post-doctoral education (individuals who are in the process of obtaining such an education, but have already completed original work are encouraged to apply.)
  • First authorship on an abstract submitted to the annual meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies in the field of perinatal cardiovascular development. The abstract must be accepted for presentation at the PAS Annual Meeting to be considered.
  • A sponsoring letter from a member of the Society for Pediatric Research. This letter should contain a short appraisal of the candidate's accomplishments and potential and clearly outline his/her participation in the work contained in the abstract.
  • Candidate's curriculum vitae.
  • The recipient must present the study at the PAS Annual Meeting in a related session.

SPR David G. Nathan Award in Hematology/Oncology back to top
(Presented by the Society for Pediatric Research)

The David G. Nathan Award in Basic Research by a Fellow was established in 2000 by the colleagues, trainees, and friends of Dr. Nathan to honor his achievements in every aspect of academic pediatrics. The winning candidate is selected based on the quality of the work presented in the abstract. The award carries a monetary prize of $1,000.
 
Eligibility Criteria: Fellow must submit and present the abstract prior to the completion of fellowship
 
Candidates must fulfill the following conditions:

  • Check the appropriate box in the PAS abstract submission program and complete the online application form.
  • Abstract and supplemental materials must be received by the PAS abstract submission deadline
  • First authorship on an abstract submitted to the Pediatric Academic Societies' (PAS) Annual Meeting in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology. The abstract must be accepted for presentation at the PAS Annual Meeting to be considered.
  • A letter from the senior investigator or sponsor that includes a statement that the work was performed by the nominee, and fully addresses the role the candidate had in the work.
  • The recipient must present the study at the PAS Annual Meeting in a related session.

SPR Fellow's Basic Research Award back to top
(Presented by the Society for Pediatric Research)

The Society for Pediatric Research annually honors students, house officers and fellows engaged in pediatric research. These awards are designed to encourage pediatricians in training to pursue careers in academic pediatrics. Winning candidates are selected based on the quality of the work presented in the abstract. Each award ($1,000) is given annually to one to three individuals.

The Society for Pediatric Research annually honors students, house officers and fellows engaged in pediatric research. These awards are designed to encourage pediatricians in training to pursue careers in academic pediatrics. Winning candidates are selected based on the quality of the work presented in the abstract. Each awardee will receive a $1,000 award. One to three awards will be given.
 
Eligibility Criteria: House Officer must submit and present the abstract prior to the completion of residency.
 
Candidates must fulfill the following conditions:

  • Check the appropriate box in the PAS abstract submission program and complete the online application form.
  • Abstract and supplemental materials must be received by the PAS abstract submission deadline.

SPR Student Research Award back to top
(Presented by the Society for Pediatric Research)

The Society for Pediatric Research annually honors students, house officers and fellows engaged in pediatric research. These awards are designed to encourage pediatricians in training to pursue careers in academic pediatrics. Winning candidates are selected based on the quality of the work presented in the abstract. Each awardee will receive a $1,000 award. Three to six awards will be given; one to two in each of the categories below:

  • M.D./Ph.D. and Ph.D. Students
  • Medical Students
  • High School and College Students


Eligibility Criteria: Student must submit and present abstract prior to the student receiving his/her B.S./B.A., M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or Ph.D.

  • Check the appropriate box in the PAS abstract submission program and complete the online application form.
  • Abstract and supplemental materials must be received by the PAS abstract submission deadline.
  • First authorship on an abstract submitted to the Pediatric Academic Societies' (PAS) Annual Meeting. The abstract must be accepted for presentation at the PAS Annual Meeting to be considered.

APA Ludwig-Seidel Award back to top
(Presented by the Ambulatory Pediatric Association)

This award recognizes the abstract that represents the best research project in pediatric emergency medicine in which a PEM fellow is a lead author.

The application involves the following:

  • Check the appropriate box in the PAS abstract submission program and complete the online application form.
  • The nominee must be the first author of the abstract.
  • Upload a 500–1000-word expanded version of the abstract. The overview should include the project’s rationale, method of implementation, and evaluation. There should be some discussion of the project’s importance and potential impact. During the judging process strong emphasis is placed on the extent to which the process is innovative, and the degree to which there is an objective evaluation component.
  • Abstract and supplemental materials must be received by December 1, 2006.

A committee from the Ambulatory Pediatric Association selects the winning candidate and the award is presented during the APA Business Meeting.

ASPN Trainee Basic & Clinical Research Awards back to top
(Presented by the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology)

Two ASPN Trainee Awards will be given of equal value, with at least one award each to the best basic and best clinical abstract submitted by a trainee. Medical students, residents, or fellows who are pursuing combined clinical and research training, toward becoming a pediatric nephrologist are eligible. The award consists of a cash award, partially paid travel expenses, and complimentary registration.

Candidates for the Trainee Research Award are solicited during the Call for Abstracts. Qualifications for this award are as follows:

  • Must be a medical student, resident or fellow pursuing combined clinical and research training toward becoming a pediatric nephrologist at the time of submission.
  • First authorship on an abstract submitted to the PAS/ASPN Annual Meeting in the field of pediatric nephrology that is accepted for presentation.
  • Awardees will be expected to present their work at one of the two nephrology “Free Communication” sessions at the annual ASPN/PAS meeting.

To Apply for an Award:
The application process for a Trainee Research Award includes the following:

  • Medical Students and Resident—Upload a document confirming your educational/training status.
  • Check the appropriate box in the PAS abstract submission program and complete the online application form
  • Complete submission packet must be RECEIVED as directed in the submission program.

The ASPN Research Committee will evaluate the abstracts based on their scientific merit and the quality of the work.

ASPN Fellow Research Presentation Award

All clinical fellows in training receive complimentary registration if they are the first author of an abstract that is accepted for poster or platform presentation to the ASPN meeting.

Travel Grants

PAS Travel Grants back to top
(Presented by the Pediatric Academic Societies)

The Pediatric Academic Societies will award travel grants in the amount of $700 plus complimentary meeting registration to attend the PAS Annual Meeting. Travel grants are possible to runner-ups among the SPR Fellow’s Basic & Fellow’s Clinical Award categories only. Indicate your interest by checking the PAS Travel Grant box in the online submission program when applying for one of those awards. Up to 120 travel awards will be made in 2008.

ASPN Resident Travel Award back to top
(Presented by the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology)

The ASPN will sponsor residents and selected other non-fellow trainees to attend the upcoming 2008 ASPN/PAS meeting from May 3-6 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Stipends to partially support travel will be given on a competitive basis. In addition, the ASPN supports the trainee registration fee for the meeting. Applicants may be medical students, 1st or 2nd year pediatric residents (PL1-PL2), or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year med-peds resident (PGY1-PGY3) in an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program.

Applications must include the following:

  • Recommendation by a member of the ASPN who agrees to accompany the trainee to the meeting.
  • Statement from the Department of Pediatrics at the applicant’s institution, indicating the intent to support the costs of attending the meeting not met by the Travel Award.
  • Applicant’s curriculum vitae along with a 1-page statement from the candidate describing his/her interest and possible career plans in pediatric nephrology.

It is important that all of the requested documents accompany the application. Applicants must commit to attend the 3-day meeting if selected.

Nominations must be submitted by Friday, January 26, 2008.
