Target Audience: General pediatricians and others interested in international health care and delivery systems. In addition, those with additional skills in the management of post cardiac surgical care will find opportunities to help educate those in emerging countries who care for these critically ill patients. Those who care for children with chronic medical conditions will learn about the role of therapeutic camps and the benefits that children and families can receive from such an experience. The role of the pediatrician as the team physician on complex surgical trips will be discussed (focusing on pre-operative screening, post-surgical pain and symptom management). Finally, a discussion about funding these very important activities will occur.

We will emphasize what the WHO is doing to improve outcomes from shock, the Gates Foundation and its role in maleria prophylaxis, Interplast and other surgical programs focused on reconstructive surgery for children, Heartlink an organization focused upon caring for children with congenital heart disease, and the role of medical camps for children who have experienced life-threatening conditions.
