| |
| Target Audience: Scientists interested in microbiology and molecular biology as well as clinicians interested in febrile children, pediatric infectious diseases and pediatric cardiology. |
| |
| Objectives:
-Understand the likely etiology of KD At the conclusions of this session
- Appreciate the applications of knowing the etiology to management of KD patients |

| Kawasaki disease is an unknown cause of multisystem vasculitis that primarily affects the coronary arteries of young children. In this session, advances in etiologic studies of KD will be presented by 3 speakers as follows:[br]Dr. Rowley will talk recent progress of her unique studies on the etiology of KD. Dr. Hara will present their recent results on the involvement of innate immunity in the development of KD by human and murine studies which suggest a critical role of the microbiota in the development of KD. Dr. Yamashiro will claim on the basis of their studies that KD is caused by bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract though their productions of superantigens and heat-shock proteins. |
