Target Audience: Scientists and clinicians involved with infants, children and adolescents with GERD, Barrett esophagus, eosinophilic and allergic esophagitis, caustic ingestions, and infectious esophagits including patients on immunosuppression (e.g., chemotherapy) or immunodeficiencies.
 
Objectives: - Describe mechanisms involved that cause injury to the esophagus[br]- Evaluate and manage patients with esophageal disorders[br]- Discuss future research directions to improve our understanding of the pathophysiology of esophageal disorders

The esophagus can be affected by a variety of caustic substances, including gastric acid and external liquids containing acid/base. Additionally the esophagus can be affected by immunologic, infectious and other agents that can lead to acute or chronic disease and even cancer. This symposium will review current state of knowledge, ongoing research, and future directions for inflammatory disorders affecting the esophagus.
