| Although currently mandated by the ACGME and certifying medical boards, most academic faculty have limited experience in performing QI. The ACGME and the Institute for Healthcare Improvements 2008 Involving Residents in Quality Improvement Project highlights the critical need for integrating QI into GME. In addition, residency and fellowship directors find it challenging to insert formal QI education into training programs. This interactive session therefore targets these issues for both trainees and faculty. Didactic and table work will include: 1) Overview Why Skills in and Application of QI is Important for Trainees and Faculty; 2) Models for Improvement; 3) QI Tools, Metrics and Interventions; and 4) QI as Academic Product. Participants will work in breakout groups applying tools, under faculty guidance. Improving the health of hospitalized children while promoting scholarship will be emphasized. Participants are encouraged to bring a process or idea relevant to his/her own setting for this interactive session. |
