WORKSHOPS

Workshops should be designed to facilitate discussions between workshop leaders and participants, regardless of their style and format. The Workshops may include short didactic presentations, but the overall intention of these sessions is to actively involve the attendees in the learning process. For example, panel-type sessions do not typically promote workshop engagement. Workshop leaders and participants should be prepared to dive into this cooperative venture jointly to promote robust learning! Workshops will be selected to maximize audience participation and ensure a broad diversity of topics.

Simulation Workshops

SIMULATION WORKSHOPS (includes equipment and/or patient models)

Note: Simulation Workshops follow the same submission, review process, and requirements as all other Workshops. The only distinction is that SIM Workshops include equipment and/or the use of human models.

Simulation Workshops are 90-minute, hands-on sessions that allow facilitators to closely engage participants through structured, immersive scenarios and interactive learning. These are ideal for showcasing innovative practices, team-based approaches, and skill-building techniques in a simulated environment. Simulation Workshops will be PAS Ticketed Events. Admission is not free; tickets must be purchased. All Simulation Workshops will be 90 minutes and held on Friday, April 30.

Agenda Template

The most successful Workshops are highly interactive and address innovative ideas and learner-centered needs. All workshops are 90 minutes.

Major criteria for workshop selection include:

  • Important and timely topic
  • Innovativeness of proposal
  • Clear learning objectives
  • Leader skill expertise
  • Engaging and attractive format
  • Use of interactive learning strategies
  • Demonstration of sound content

Workshop submissions are extremely competitive every year; in 2026, there was a 38% acceptance rate.

To maximize the diversity of topics and leaders, preference may be given to workshops that have not been presented in the past two years. Submissions should demonstrate sound content and some evidence of content validity.  Submitters should refer to the peer-reviewed literature in the framing of their submission.

We also encourage the development of workshops that appeal to more senior faculty as well as trainees, stressing an across-the-learner continuum approach.  Workshops submissions that represent multi-institutions and programs are considered favorable as this can promote diversity of thought, rigor, overall representation and collaboration.

Finally, we ask that submitters consider their submission though an equity lens, pausing to consider if representation is adequate in leaders, targeted audience, thought and process.

SUBMITTING A WORKSHOP

Session submitters will not be able to complete a session submission until all required tasks are completed. There are three required tasks to be completed by the submitter of the session and each speaker in the session:

  1. Profile Participation Information
  2. Conflict of Interest – Important COI Information
  3. Acknowledgment

All submitters are expected to give proactive attention to DEI as sessions are planned. See the PAS Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for full details.
