PAS PROGRAM COMMITTEE

The PAS Program Committee is a large, active working group that is responsible for the overall organization, construction, and evaluation of the PAS Meeting. The committee is comprised of representatives from the American Pediatric Society, Society for Pediatric Research, Academic Pediatric Association, and American Academy of Pediatrics. It also includes representatives from each of the alliance and affiliate organizations that meet in conjunction with the PAS. In general, the composition of the program committee reflects the broad-based interests of the members, guests, and trainees who attend the meeting.

REMINDER: Please remember that all Program Committee (PC) information is confidential. Any deviation from standard procedures—including matters related to ancillary events—must be formally approved by PAS. PC members should refrain from making decisions based solely on our discussions with the PAS Program.

Volunteers

We need your help! Volunteers play a major role in the success of our meeting, but we’ve seen decreased participation over the past few years—particularly for Abstract Reviewers, MOC II Reviewers, and Moderator/Discussant roles.

As a Program Committee Member, you’re encouraged to share our volunteer opportunities with your peers to help us boost engagement and support.

All PC Members are eligible to volunteer; however, please note that you cannot volunteer as an Abstract Reviewer for the topic area where you’re serving as Coordinating Chair or Supporting Faculty.

The Call for Volunteers is open until September 18, 2025.

Scholarly Sessions

Scholarly Session Review: 9/23 – 10/6

PAS will email you the following documents on September 23: Scholarly Session Proposal Report & Scholarly Session Index.

During this time, Program Committee Members should be connecting with their society’s designated Scholarly Session Selector to determine which sessions will be selected by your society.

Selection: Oct. 6 – 9, 2025 | Action Required for PC Designated Selector!

Each Partner, Alliance, and Affiliate will select one Scholarly Session Designated Selector. During the selection period (10/6 – 10/9). During the selection period, PAS will follow the pre-determined Scholarly Session Allotment Document and Order of Selection to notify the designated selectors to pick their sessions and so on.

PAS recommends that each Partner, Alliance, and Affiliate prepares for their selection timeframe by having multiple back up options. All selectors will have the opportunity to view other society’s selections.

After Selection:

The live Scholarly Session List will be emailed to the Program Committee by October 13, along with more information.

Review the live Scholarly Session List to see selected sessions and those still available.
Help Us Fill Program Gaps! The Program Committee Leadership Team (PCLT) will identify additional sessions to round out the program. To help identify gaps, please share comments before or during the October 15 meeting on sessions you believe strengthen the program.
Endorsements & Co-Sponsorships: Connect with your society’s Program Committee Representatives to determine if there are SELECTED Scholarly Sessions your society should endorse/co-sponsor. These are sessions that your society DID NOT select but wishes to endorse publicly through the Online Program Guide (example here). Please use this form to endorse Scholarly Sessions by Monday, October 27.

Abstract Selection:
In October, PAS will connect you with your topic team (Abstract Allotment Doc). This team will consist of a coordinating chair and supporting faculty.

On December 10, 2024, PAS will send your team an email announcing the opening of selection. Within this email, you will receive the following documents:

The PAS 2025 Allotment Document.
All abstracts submitted in your topic area with the reviewer’s scores.
Presenter’s DEI.
A list of moderators who volunteered under your topic.

Coordinating chairs analyze the review scores and ultimately select and develop the final programs based on the review outcomes. After careful collaboration with the coordinating chair team, it is the responsibility of the coordinating chair lead to submit the final session assignments online. Moderators, alternate Moderators, and poster symposium discussants should be assigned during this time. Discussants serve as “plants” in the audience to enhance and facilitate audience interaction during poster symposia.

Reminder:

There are ONLY 6 abstracts in an Oral Platform and UP TO 15 posters in a poster cluster.
The number of Oral Platforms and Poster Cluster are pre-determined by PAS and can be found on the allotment document within December 11’s email.
Two Moderators and four alternate moderators for each Oral Platform will need to be determined and entered into Cadmium.

Recommendations: Don’t wait! Once you’ve been connected with your team in September, schedule a time during the selection process (December 10-23) to meet with your team and select abstracts.
